Do you want to gain 4-5 horsepower with only about five minutes work?
If you have the optional John Cooper Works air intake then you've got some work to do. When John Cooper Works created their Mini Cooper S airbox they neglected to use a high flow performance air filter. Unfortunately, their JCW Mini Cooper S air box still uses a paper filter element, which is very restrictive, significantly limiting airflow. Our replacement high flow velocity stack filter is a direct fit and installs in 5 minutes.
After the switch It felt as if the car was being shot out of a slingshot, it just took off! Testimonial of Mini Cooper S Owner.
The Madness Mini Cooper S High Flow Air filter gives you both increased airflow and reusability at a very low price. Considering that their restrictive/non-reusable John Cooper Works replacement paper filter costs $170 to replace, can you afford not to make the switch? The Madness high flow Filter can be cleaned so that it may be used for a very long time if properly maintained.
Kit includes instruction CD as well as some other modifications you need to do to increase the John Cooper Works intake airflow.
Lifetime warranty with a proven 4-5 HP gain. Will not fit 2009 JCW models

Good Replacement Filter

I purchased this filter not because of the promised gains, but simply to replace my stock filter. I figured I may as well get a reusable one instead of something you have to throw away after use. This was worth the cost to me even without the potential performance boost.
As for the performance gain, I'm not quite sure there is much difference. It feels a bit smoother accelerating, however that might just be because my old filter needed to be replaced.
I wouldn't suggest this filter replacement merely for the performance gain. Some may feel a difference, some may not. I'm not seeing much difference in power, but it's a solid-quality replacement filter that is reusable. In the long run this will save you money, so there really is no reason not to get it.
Installation was fairly simple. Getting it mounted onto the JCW intake top was the hardest part. Just remember to loosen the screw more than you think you should, then it will snap on.
Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. Ditch the paper filters for good and get something reusable, whether it's this filter or some other brand.
NOTE : I already had the intake flap mod done with the paper filter. I DID notice a difference when I did this mod.

I wish I knew about this product sooner. I feel like I have a new toy!

After the Mini dealer told me it would cost $175 to replace my JCW air filter, I decided to browse around for alternatives. After I saw the video on this product, I decided, it seems simple enough and with the lower price and reusability of the filter and the added power, it was a no brainer. I'm not a mechanic and was able to perform the task in minutes just as the video explained. I have to say, the sound, the performance, the efficiency - IS SO SWEET! I should have done this the day it got out of the factory. This is a must have!!! Anyway, one warning - I would disconnect the vacuum tube off the filter housing first before lifting the housing. I made the mistake of lifting the housing before I removed the vacuum tube which disconnected the tube from the other end and I was careful. That was a nightmare and was my own fault. If you ever get in this scenario - you will not see where to reconnect it. You kinda have to feel for it around and there's not a lot of room there. It connects to a Y splitter looking thing somewhere under the manifold and is kinda just floating which makes it harder to reconnect. Avoid this and it really does just take minutes to implement the whole process. Anyway, it's all worth it. I feel like I have a new toy! It really does come alive. I'm baffled why JCW did not do this in the first place! When it's time to change your original filter, this is definitely the way to go. Thank you for the great video and the clear manual!

a Breathe-Right Strip for your MINI!

While it took a little longer to arrive than expected, just like Xmas morning it was worth the wait! The installation was easy, even with the JCW strut brace.
Post install, the filter and corresponding airbox mod were like placing a breathe-right strip on the nose of a stuffed up cold suffer. the engine easily developed a smoother spool up and improved the acceleration!
money well spent!

Skeptical at first, now I'm a believer!

Ok, so I was a bit skeptical with some of the reviews of the Mini Madness JCW intake, with phrases like it felt like a slingshot. Well, today, after getting home from getting the oil changed in the MINI, I proceeded to install the new intake filter along with doing the flap mod. I took it out to a straight, deserted country road and let her rip! HOLY CRAP, I had to use both hands on the wheel to combat the torque steer through third gear! I kid you not, it felt like a lot more than 5HP!! The car has never felt this powerful, especially at higher rpms. In fact, shifting at redline in 2nd and 3rd did produce a slingshot like effect as the car seemed to leap ahead, feeling as if the front tires were ready to leave the ground. Also like the added sound from the flap being open at all rpms. Very worthwhile mod!!

JCW Filter replacement

I have a 2006 S with the factory installed complete JCW pkg. It is strong but more is always better and can obviously benefit from some additional tuning.
The install was easy and the instructions were clear, including the additional box mod.
My low end stumble problems are almost completely gone. Throttle response is significantly improved, more air is always better, even for an S.
Engine sound is also better as the supercharger whine is a little more noticeable and a lot more impressive.
Also, if your foam gasket sealing the air box to the cowl wall was as mangled and ill fitting as mine was, take the time to properly glue it to the air box. As is evidenced by this kit, every little helps.
The results were better than expected. This is worth every penny, get it and make sure to do the box mod too. While you can feel and hear the difference across the entire rpm range , this has the most value where most of us need it the most at the lower end of the range, perfect.
Thanks,
Terry
